How to Introduce Your Business in One Sentence (Without Waffling)
When someone asks, “So what do you do?”, do you find yourself hesitating, rambling, or giving an answer that doesn’t really land?
Having a clear one-liner (or two) that explains who you help, what you do, and why it matters is one of the simplest but most powerful marketing tools you can have.
Here are 6 easy frameworks you can use to shape your answer. Try them out, mix and match, and see which feels most natural:
1. Problem - Solution - Outcome
I help [ideal customer] who struggle with [problem] by [your solution], so they can [outcome].
Example: “I help small business owners who feel stuck with inconsistent marketing by creating clear strategies, so they can attract steady clients and grow with confidence.”
2. Who You Help + What You Do + Why It Matters
We work with [ideal audience] to [do what], so they can [achieve benefit].
Example: “We work with homeowners planning renovations to design and manage their projects, so they can improve their homes without stress.”
3. The Elevator Pitch Question
You know how [problem]? Well, I/we [solution] so that [benefit].
Example: “You know how many homeowners worry about hidden issues when buying a property? We carry out detailed building surveys so they can purchase with peace of mind.”
4. The ‘Onlyness’ Statement
We are the only [type of business] that [unique approach] for [audience].
Example: “We are the only surveyors in North London who combine technical expertise with a plain-English approach, making property decisions clearer for homebuyers.”
5. The Value Sandwich
Who you help - What you do - Why it matters.
Example: “We work with professional services firms that want to grow but feel overwhelmed by marketing. We create simple, focused strategies that cut through the noise. The result is more enquiries, more clients, and more confidence.”
6. The Outcome First Hook
We help [audience] [achieve desired outcome] by [how you do it].
Example: “We help coaches and consultants fill their diaries by creating marketing plans that actually work.”
You don’t need all six. Just pick the one that feels most natural to you. The point is clarity and confidence. Next time someone asks what you do, you’ll have a sharp, memorable answer that makes them want to know more.
